"Fairtrade - Choose the World you want!"

WHAT IS FAIRTRADE?

Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world

COAGRICSAL - FT Honduras Arabica Coffee

COAGRICSAL is the largest first level fair trade organization in Honduras. It is mainly a coffee producing cooperative, but has recently added fine cocoa.

The cooperative benefits over 1500 families through direct and indirect initiatives including the development of community centres, schools, water management, reforestation projects and more.

It specifically supports youth through education and scholarships for the children of the producers. There are 30 permanent staff at the cooperative and 75 seasonal workers.

FT Brazil

COOCAFE (Cooperative of Coffee Region Lajinha) was founded in 1979 in the city of Lajinha in the state of Minas Gerais. The cooperatives have been certified Fairtrade since 2006.

It is located between the forest regions of Minas Gerais and the mountains of the Espírito Santo state. The climate is predominantly humid and the land sees a substantial amount of rainfall throughout the year. Partners of Coocafé receive technical assistance, purchase security contributions of coffee and other agricultural inputs over more than 20 locations where the project is developed, which produce more than 1 million bags per year.

Currently some 5,000 small and large scale farmers are members of Coocafe.

ASPROTIMANA – FT Colombia Arabica Coffee

ASPROTIMANA was formed in 2001 as an initiative of 32 producers who were interested in developing more stable marketing channels for its flagship product, coffee, to improve the social and economic position of the families in the area. The social objectives of the project were initially focussed on the coffee farming families but the medium- and long-term aim is for the benefits to extend more widely through the region as well. The cooperative is based in the district of Huila and includes 22 villages in the Timana, Elijah and Suaza areas. The cooperative’s name is derived from the Timanaes tribe that originally inhabited the region. Coffee is the main crop, grown on an area of approximately 250 hectares. The majority of the crop is Caturra coffee, but varieties such as Colombia and Castillo are also grown.

Today the association comprises 85 families of small coffee growers who are committed to improving their standard of living by producing and exporting high quality coffee.

PPKGO – FT Organic Sumatra Arabica Coffee

From the scenic highland slopes of the Gayo Mountains near Laut Tawar in the Takengon region of Northern Sumatra, comes the exotically aromatic “Takengon” Sumatra coffee. There are over 200 small coffee producers who contribute to this very important Fairtrade and organic certified coffee production.

The farmers and communities of this remote region face a number of environmental and socio-economic challenges, including soil erosion, deforestation, as well as low and unstable incomes. The organization, production, technical assistance, and higher prices for certified Fairtrade organic coffee help these remote farmers by enabling them to generate a better income for themselves and to improve the economic basis in the communities.
