What is Fairtrade?
Fairtrade products are certified as having been produced to Fairtrade standards by Fairtrade organisations. They create trading partnerships that are based on dialogue, transparency and respect, with the goal of achieving greater equity in international trade.
These partnerships contribute to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to farmers and producers. Fairtrade organisations support producers and sustainable environmental farming practices and prohibit child labour or forced labour.
Buying Fairtrade Coffee
When you choose Fairtrade coffee, your purchase ensures that not only can farmers build a better quality of life for their families and communities, they can invest in growing better quality beans too.
Fairtrade coffee farmers invest at least 25% of their Fairtrade premium in improving productivity and quality. Fairtrade certified coffee directly supports a better life for farming families in the developing world through fair prices, community development and environmental stewardship. Fairtrade coffee farmers market their own harvests through direct, long-term contracts with international buyers, learning how to manage their businesses and compete in the global marketplace.
Farmers and Workers
Workers on fair trade farms enjoy freedom of association, safe working conditions and sustainable wages. The practice of Fairtrade attempts to reduce poverty and exploitation of farmers, artisans and workers. Forced child and slave labour are strictly prohibited.
When you choose Fairtrade coffee, not only can farmers build a better quality of life for their families and communities, they can invest in growing better quality beans too. Receiving a fair price for their harvest allows these farmers to invest in their families' health care and education, reinvest in quality and protect the environment.
This empowerment model lifts farming families from poverty through trade, not aid, creating a more equitable and sustainable model of international trade that benefits producers, consumers, industry and the Earth.
We are Fairtrade
Kingdom Coffee is a proud supplier of one of the largest range of Fairtrade products. Fairtrade means local sustainability and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world but it doesn't mean you have to pay a premium for a fair product - quite the opposite!
Every Case of Pura-Vida
In addition to supporting Fairtrade - better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world - Kingdom Coffee will donate £5 to LATIN LINK, TOYBOX or TEARFUND for every case purchased.
Your purchase will provide essential funds for these charities to continue their outstanding work. Working together we will make a significant difference to the lives of many vulnerable people.
Other Causes We Support
Other Charities and organisations that we support include:
- Locally, we support many other organisations including the Street Pastors, The Footsteps Foundation (an intensive physiotherapy for disabled children), CIRDIC and Providence (helping homeless and disadvantaged), and the Younger People With Dementia charity in Wokingham - a brilliant charity founded to support those with young onset dementia, their family and carers.
- Christian Aid - Kingdom Coffee are proud to be the official coffee sponsor of Christian Aid’s Big Brekkie event.
- Kingdom Coffee is proud to support Pangbourne College and the HUGE (Helping Uganda Educate) Nabugabo project in Uganda - this charity has been set up to make a difference to children who, through no fault of their own, can't go to school, are malnourished and have no access to normal health facilities.
