Divine Chocolate: Ethical, Premium and Fairtrade Chocolate with a Conscience

Here at Kingdom Coffee, we've been proudly selling Divine Chocolate for decades, but why do we choose them? It’s simple really; incredible ethics and incredible taste. You can’t beat that!

But don’t just take my word for it; here are four reasons why we believe you should be buying and supporting Divine and their ethical Chocolate (beyond the great taste!).

Farmer Ownership

Divine is unique in their ownership structure. The Kuapa Kokoo Farmers’ Union, who are a co-operative of over 100,000 cocoa farmers in Ghana, actually co-own Divine Chocolate in what is a radically unique structure, a first in the Fairtrade World. This gives the farmers much more funding but also empowers them with a voice in the cocoa industry and a ‘seat at the table’.

Gender Equality

With additional funding prioritised for community wellbeing and mentoring, Kuapa Kokoo and Divine have invested in teaching personal and professional skills to thousands of women with specific programmes. Certification

Divine is independently and third-party certified meaning you can be assured that these high standards they hold themselves to are upheld by a separate body. They are also not only leaders and pioneers in the Fairtrade world, but also a multi-year honouree recognised as “Best for the World: Communities” by B-Lab, alongside their B-Corp Certification.

Sustainability

Sustainability permeates the approach Divine takes to their supply chain. At source, Fairtrade standards for environmental considerations are adhered to and being that they are a co-operative, they source from many individual smallholder farms that have been handed down across generations.

They only use limited airfreight, and review their packaging annually with developments such as “using only FSC paper and board, removing the cellophane wrapper from the Divine Advent Calendars, cutting down ‘chocolate miles’ in our supply chain, and sourcing almost all our seasonal packaging locally in the UK.”; for more information, visit their Frequently Asked Questions.

Summary

So why buy Divine? Beyond the delicious taste, there’s a whole host of reasons from sustainability, certifications, gender empowerment and a truly unique ownership model.

We sell the 30 x 35g bars and always get positive reviews for them.
