"Fairtrade - Choose the World you want!"

WHAT IS FAIRTRADE?

Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world

OCFCU - FT Ethiopian Arabica Coffee

OCFCU (Oromia Coffee Farmer’s Cooperative Union) is a smallholder coffee grower owned cooperative union established on June 1, 1999, by 34 cooperatives with 22,691 farmers. Today there are 405 cooperatives with over 400,000 Members and $20,000,000 Capital. OCFCU is a Democratic member’s owned business operating under the principles of International Cooperative Alliance and Fairtrade.

Members of OCFCU are the growers, processors, and suppliers of high quality, Arabica coffee for direct export. The general objective of OCFCU is to export the farmers’ coffee by-passing the auction. OCFCU promotes Fairtrade for socially and environmentally sustainable techniques and long-term relationships between producers, traders, and consumers.

OCFCU aims to help small-scale coffee farmers to take advantage of the Fairtrade coffee market. OCFCU was established in order to help farmer families. OCFCU returns 70 percent of its net profits back to the cooperatives, and cooperatives back to members.

FT Brazil

COOCAFE (Cooperative of Coffee Region Lajinha) was founded in 1979 in the city of Lajinha in the state of Minas Gerais. The cooperatives have been certified Fairtrade since 2006.

It is located between the forest regions of Minas Gerais and the mountains of the Espírito Santo state. The climate is predominantly humid and the land sees a substantial amount of rainfall throughout the year. Partners of Coocafé receive technical assistance, purchase security contributions of coffee and other agricultural inputs over more than 20 locations where the project is developed, which produce more than 1 million bags per year.

Currently some 5,000 small and large scale farmers are members of Coocafe.

FTAK - FT India Robusta Coffee

FTAK is a small farmers’ organisation located in South India that grows coffee and many other products including cashew nuts and tropical spices.

Formed in 2006, FTAK is a farmer-led movement whose members are located in four hilly districts of the Western Ghats of Kerala. Cashew growers are mainly in Kasargod and Kannur regions and spice growers mainly in Kozhikode and Wayanad.

FTAK actively promotes organic farming for its economic and environmental benefits, with all members now in conversion to certified organic production. FTAK also acts on behalf of its members to access government-aided programmes such as crop insurance, provision of organic inputs and farmer training.
