FAIRTRADE
The Fairtrade minimum price is that which a buyer of Fairtrade products is required to pay to a producer for their product. It is not a fixed price, but should be seen as the lowest possible starting point for price negotiations between producer and purchaser. It is set at a level which ensures that producer receive a price which covers the cost of sustainable production for their product. This means it also acts as a safety net for farmers at times when world markets fall below a sustainable level. However, when the market price is higher than the Fairtrade minimum, the buyer must pay the market price. Buyers are also required to enter into long-term trading relationships so that producers can predict their income and plan for the future.

ETHICAL
Ethical, it’s what makes us different. Our Ethical label allows us to provide a wider range of coffees other than those available through Fairtrade, whilst continuing to reinvest a percentage of the profits back into the communities of the coffee growing regions. Ethical ensures that it is not only the coffee producers who benefit, but also those who live within the vicinity of the productive regions.

FAIRTRADE AND ETHICAL are two of Kingdom Coffee’s guiding principles. With this in mind we have established wonderful working relationships with three Christian charities, Toybox, Tearfund and Latin Link to whom we make contributions that in turn helps to fund their projects. Welfare, education and social projects are all beneficiaries of the money you kindly contribute through your purchase our coffee and our three charitable partners ensure that every penny is used to improve the lives of others. Please take a moment to read further about each of our charitable partners and if you have any questions please contact our office for further details.

With TOYBOX we funded the building of classrooms in two church related projects within the city of Cochabamba, called ‘Emanuel’ and ‘Christ The Only Hope’. The projects help protect vulnerable children from the dangers of life on the streets, helping them work toward a brighter future.

This year we’ve teamed up with Toybox to deliver our most ambitious project yet, supporting 100 children in Guatemala with food and outreach worker support in an area that has recently been described as “one of the worst places in the world to be a child”(Telegraph 2015).

In Guatemala, the number of children living and working on the streets is alarmingly high.  Many children are orphaned or forced to escape to the street after suffering abuse and neglect at home. Others have simply been abandoned by families who do not have the resources to care for them. On the street, vulnerable children are met with the daily horror of living amongst widespread violence, in a country with one of the highest national murder rates in the world. Often, these children are no more than 7 years old and are visibly malnourished. Some of them will not have eaten for days. Malnutrition is extremely dangerous. It seriously harms the development of younger children’s brains and damages their future prospects irreparably. Prolonged hunger is also physically agonising – people talk about hunger pains for a reason.

Kingdom Coffee becomes a partner with Toybox in delivering this life-changing work in Guatemala. With a donation this year of £10,000 this will enable Toybox to:

- Provide the resources needed for the street outreach team throughout 2015. Conduct 240 visits to the children in the most high-risk areas in Guatemala City.
- Deliver 100 children across the city a warm and nutritious meal each week, something they desperately need.
- Cover the costs of two street outreach team leader salaries, who can ensure the programme is run as effectively as possible.

Your continued support of Kingdom Coffee means that we can fund vital projects such as this so THANK YOU VERY MUCH! You can follow updates from our charitable partners via our website, Facebook and Twitter feeds.

With LATIN LINK we helped fund twenty families from Pasajquim and San Juan Moca in Guatemala through the provision of cooking stoves. These are important in maintaining the families health and well being and the sustainability of the forest surrounding their homes.

This year we contribute to funding the Vive Kids Project. Over the last three years Vive Kids has trained around 300 children's club leaders in 19 places on Colombia's northern coast. These leaders are now running clubs for the children in their communities, places that have been affected by violence and extreme poverty. Many of these leaders live in very isolated places and Latin Link would like to use the Kingdom Coffee money to provide small travel grants to some leaders to ensure that they can attend their local camp.

With TEARFUND, the funds raised help community development programmes in Ethiopia and other initiatives designed to tackle poverty from the inside out. For the first time women like Meseret feel empowered to have their voice heard and to earn vital income so that they can improve their children’s futures. Meseret is part of a church support group set up by Tearfund where people support each other in everything and help to look after the rest of the community. She saved and invested in small businesses, being able to completely transform her life and give her daughters a better future. She gained so much confidence that she applied for a job at the Government Office and is now responsible for Women’s and Children’s welfare issues. Meseret says “if I had the resources, I would write a book about my story because I am so passionate about helping others to see that they can change their futures”.

To help Tearfund to set up new groups through the Kale Heywet Church in Ethiopia we made a plan with our Café Tesfa (Hope) - FOR EVERY CASE OF TESFA FILTER COFFEE SOLD £5 IS DONATED TO TEARFUND.
